Vertical hitch is a method of supporting a load by a single, vertical part or leg of the sling.
Alloy steel chain slings with cracked or deformed master links, coupling links or other components shall be removed from service. By Standard Number Part Number:. This section applies to slings used in conjunction with other material handling equipment for the movement of material by hoisting, in employments covered by this part. The types of slings covered are those made from alloy steel chain, wire rope, metal mesh, natural or synthetic fiber rope conventional three strand construction , and synthetic web nylon, polyester, and polypropylene.
Braided wire rope is a wire rope formed by plaiting component wire ropes. Link is a single ring of a chain. Male handle triangle is a handle with a handle eye. Sling is an assembly which connects the load to the material handling equipment. Whenever any sling is used, the following practices shall be observed:.
Each day before being used, the sling and all fastenings and attachments shall be inspected for damage or defects by a competent person designated by the employer.
Additional inspections shall be performed during sling use, where service conditions warrant. Damaged or defective slings shall be immediately removed from service. Alloy steel chain slings shall have permanently affixed durable identification stating size, grade, rated capacity, and reach.
Such inspections shall in no event be at intervals greater than once every 12 months. Where such defects or deterioration are present, the sling shall be immediately removed from service. The employer shall ensure that before use, each new, repaired, or reconditioned alloy steel chain sling, including all welded components in the sling assembly, shall be proof tested by the sling manufacturer or equivalent entity, in accordance with paragraph 5.
The employer shall retain a certificate of the proof test and shall make it available for examination. Employers must permanently remove an alloy steel-chain slings from service if it is heated above degrees F.
When exposed to service temperatures in excess of degrees F, employers must reduce the maximum working-load limits permitted by the chain manufacturer in accordance with the chain or sling manufacturer's recommendations. When welding or heat testing is performed, slings shall not be used unless repaired, reconditioned and proof tested by the sling manufacturer or an equivalent entity. If the chain size at any point of the link is less than that stated in Table N, the employer must remove the chain from service.
Employers must use only wire-rope slings that have permanently affixed and legible identification markings as prescribed by the manufacturer, and that indicate the recommended safe working load for the type s of hitch es used, the angle upon which it is based, and the number of legs if more than one.

For fiber rope under one inch in diameter, the tail shall project at least six rope diameters beyond the last full tuck. For fiber rope one inch in diameter and larger, the tail shall project at least six inches beyond the last full tuck. Where a projecting tail interferes with the use of the sling, the tail shall be tapered and spliced into the body of the rope using at least two additional tucks which will require a tail length of approximately six rope diameters beyond the last full tuck.
Fiber rope slings shall not be used if end attachments in contact with the rope have sharp edges or projections. Natural and synthetic fiber rope slings shall be immediately removed from service if any of the following conditions are present:. Only fiber rope slings made from new rope shall be used. Use of repaired or reconditioned fiber rope slings is prohibited. Each sling shall be marked or coded to show the rated capacities for each type of hitch and type of synthetic web material.

carbon steel - Manufacturer producer - Italy
The many applications of steel demonstrate best the great versatility of this material. Good examples are sheets for deep-drawn automobile bodies and appliances made of low-carbon steels, medium-carbon structural steels and plates employed in all kinds of construction, high-carbon railroad rails, and wires at all carbon levels used for hundreds of items. The addition of costly alloys begins when combinations of properties are requested that cannot be met by carbon steels.
Most metals in everyday use are alloys. An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements , where at least one element is a metal. Many alloys are mixtures of two or more metals. Bronze was the first alloy to be made by humans, around years ago. Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. Nowadays, bronze is used to make statues, bells and coins. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and is used to make musical instruments, door knobs, locks and taps. Gold is a very soft and malleable metal. It is also very unreactive , so it resists corrosion and stays shiny.
GLOSSARY OF WIRE TERMS
Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon , and sometimes other elements. Because of its high tensile strength and low cost, it is a major component used in buildings , infrastructure , tools , ships , trains , automobiles , machines , appliances , and weapons. Iron is the base metal of steel. Iron is able to take on two crystalline forms allotropic forms , body centered cubic and face-centered cubic , depending on its temperature. In the body-centered cubic arrangement, there is an iron atom in the center and eight atoms at the vertices of each cubic unit cell; in the face-centered cubic, there is one atom at the center of each of the six faces of the cubic unit cell and eight atoms at its vertices. It is the interaction of the allotropes of iron with the alloying elements, primarily carbon, that gives steel and cast iron their range of unique properties. In pure iron, the crystal structure has relatively little resistance to the iron atoms slipping past one another, and so pure iron is quite ductile , or soft and easily formed. In steel, small amounts of carbon, other elements, and inclusions within the iron act as hardening agents that prevent the movement of dislocations.
Carbon Steel and Mild Steel: The Basics
Carbon and stainless steel are both created with percentages of carbon and iron, but their characteristics are fairly distinct. This is the most basic form of steel available. Typically, the percentage of carbon in this steel is much higher than in stainless steel, and it largely defines how the metal behaves. The construction industry uses about a quarter of the world's steel, which can be found in almost every building made by humans, as well as in the construction of roads, railways, other infrastructure, appliances, and buildings. It can be used to make a wide range of products , such as playground equipment, automobile parts, structural beams, knives, steel wires, and refrigerator parts. The alloy is susceptible to corrosion, so it needs to be galvanized for outdoor use. On a superficial level, stainless steel is an attractive metal, with a lustrous and reflective finish that is easy on the eyes. This is due to the high percentage of chromium over Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel has a chromium oxide coating that protects against rust and stains. Some stainless steel alloys are even resistant to sulfuric or phosphoric acid.
